Bearcats Fall to No. 7 Washburn 3-1 on the Road
TOPEKA, Kan. - (Box Score) Alicia Johnson tallied her 17th staight match with double-digit kills, but it wouldn't be enough as Northwest Missouri State volleyball fell 3-1 to No. 7 Washburn this afternoon. Scores went 30-22, 29-31, 30-19, 30-22.
Northwest moves to 11-11 and 2-3 in the MIAA while the Lady Blues improve to 20-1 and remain undefeated in the MIAA at 5-0.
The Bearcats built up a 14-4 lead in game two and maintained a 18-9 lead until Washburn put together a 5-0 lead to pull within 18-14. The Lady Blues continued to chip at the Northwest lead until tying the game at 25. Both teams tied the other through the 29th point before Northwest put together two points off a Washburn attack error and a kill from Sara Falcone to win game two 31-29.
Johnson led Northwest with 18 kills, followed by Rachel Nisi's 14 and Falcone's 10 kills. Paige Spangenberg and Katie Swenson each tallied 17 digs while Swenson contributed 50 assists.
Northwest returns to Bearcat Arena on Oct. 3, welcoming Missouri Southern for a 7 p.m. match.
