Bearcats Use Record 18 Aces to Sweep Missouri Western 3-0
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - (Box Score) Northwest Missouri State volleyball used a record 18 aces to shutout Missouri Western 3-0 tonight at the MWSU Fieldhouse. Northwest won by 30-27, 30-27, 30-15 scores.
Northwest improves to 10-10 and 2-2 in the MIAA while Missouri Western falls to 6-12 and 0-4 in conference action.
The Bearcats and Griffons stayed within striking distance of the other throughout the first two games, but Northwest ran off 11 straight points in game three, 10 coming off the serving of Sara Falcone. Falcone ended the night with a career-high four aces, contributing to the 18 team aces put up by the Bearcats.
The 18 aces are a school record for a three-game match, surpassing the 16 scored against Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) on Sept. 11, 2004. The tally is second in all matches only to the 20 aces the Bearcats scored against Wayne (Neb.) State on Sept. 7, 1991 (five-game match).
Alicia Johnson led all players with 12 kills, recording her 15th straight match in double-digit kills. Rachel Nisi led Northwest with 12 digs and Katie Swenson notched 40 assists.
The Bearcats return home on Sept. 27 to face South Dakota at 7 p.m. from Bearcat Arena. The Coyotes took a 3-1 match earlier this season from Northwest during the Bearcat Classic.
