Northwest Drops Match to Nationally Ranked Washburn
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to the No. 7 Washburn Lady Blues. Scores went 30-14, 30-26, 28-20 and 30-15.
In game three Northwest trailed 11-13 before Alicia Johnson took the ball and served the Bearcats to an 8-0 run where Washburn blew both of their timeouts. The Lady Blues came back from the six point deficit and tied the game at 28. Northwest took the last two points on an attack error by Washburn and kill by Alicia Johnson.
Northwest struggled early at the net, but rebounding hitting .180 in game two and .263 in game three. Alicia Johnson led the Bearcats in kills for the third straight match with 16 and Katie Swenson dished out 46 assists with six kills. Johnson also recorded her ninth double-double with 11 digs. Both Nicole Wojtowicz and Paige Spangenberg led the defensive effort with 15 digs.
The Bearcats will host another ranked opponent Wednesday, Sept. 19, when No. 18 Nebraska-Omaha comes to Maryville. The match is slated for 7 p.m.
