Northwest Tops Upper Iowa to Complete Weekend Home Stand

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team defeated Upper Iowa 3-1 to complete its weekend home stand. In games one and two, Northwest won 30-18 and 30-23.

Game one was tied 16-16 before Northwest went on an 11-0 run thanks to the serving of Alicia Johnson, who finished with a career-high seven aces. Game three was much more competitive as the Peacocks battled to a 30-28 win. In game four, the Bearcats trailed just once and sustained a comeback from Upper Iowa to hold on for the victory.

Three players finished with double-digit kills, led by Johnson's with 15. Paige Spangenberg recorded 19 digs and Katie Swenson dished out 50 assists. Amy Bohnker had seven total blocks, three solo and four assists. As a team, the Bearcats hit .327 at the net, the seventh time this season Northwest has hit better than .300.

Northwest will host MIAA foe No. 8 Washburn on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. Its the fifth match of a seven-match home stand. The Bearcats are currently 2-2 on their homestand.
