Northwest Sweeps SBU in MIAA Opener
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Alicia Johnson and Sara Falcone had a match-high 14 kills to lead Northwest to a 3-0 win in its MIAA opener over Southwest Baptist Wednesday night at Bearcat Arena. Scores went 30-17, 30-22 and 30-10.
The Bearcats outserved Southwest Baptist 13 aces to none and outhit the Lady Bearcats .341 to .103. Falcone and Johnson hit .500 and .419, respectively.
Northwest rarely trailed in the contest and rattled off 14 straight points as part of a 20-3 run to open game three. Falcone had three consecutive kills and Johnson served three consecutive aces in the rally. The Bearcats hit .452 (17-3-31) in game three.
Rachel Nisi gave Northwest three players with double-digit kills. She had 13 to go with nine digs. Katie Swenson assisted on 50 of Northwest's 56 kills and added 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Paige Spangenberg led the Bearcats defensively with a match-high 20 digs.
Wednesday marked the first of seven home matches for Northwest spanning 11 days. The Bearcats host 10th-ranked Truman at Bearcat Arena Friday at 7 p.m.
