Match Twelve: Northwest 3, Newman 0 (30-23, 30-20, 30-28)
MARYVILLE - The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats swept Newman (Kan.) University 3-0 to complete the 2007 Bearcat Classic. In game one, Nicole Wojtowicz subbed in early and gave the Bearcats a 5-1 lead with three consecutive service aces. The Bearcats trailed only three times, once in each game, and never by more than one point.
Alicia Johnson continue her stellar play hitting an impressive .412 hitting percentage with 18 kills. Paige Spangenberg led the defensive effort with 19 digs, while Katie Swenson dished out 38 assists.
The Bearcats move to 6-6 overall after the 2-2 split in the Bearcat Classic. Newman continues to look for its first victory falling to 0-15.
The Bearcats will open Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) play with a home match versus Southwest Baptist on Sept. 12 at 7 pm.
