Northwest Rebounds With Sweep Of SWOSU
AUSTIN, Texas-Alicia Johnson had 11 kills and Sara Falcone added nine as Northwest (4-3) beat Southwest Oklahoma State (4-4) 3-0 Saturday at the St. Edward's Classic. Scores went 30-16, 30-23, 32-30.
Johnson added 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. She's had three double-doubles in Northwest's last four matches.
The Bearcats hit .382 in the opener and got three consecutive aces from Katie Swenson to close out the game. Northwest totaled 10 aces in the match.
Game two went back-and-forth until Falcone provided the Bearcats some separation. Her solo block of Tennessee Brown made it 18-16 Northwest. Falcone added three consecutive kills to extend the lead to 22-18. She was 5-for-5 in game two and hit .389 (9-2-18) for the match.
The Bearcats survived a game-point before rallying to take game three. Swenson got three of Northwest's final five points on kills. The starting setter, Swenson hit .857 (6-0-7) for the match in addition to her 36 assists.
Rachel Nisi had a nice touch down the line to break a 28-28 tie and give Northwest a lead. The Bulldogs scored the next two points, but Swenson tied it at 30 with a kill. Falcone had a big swing down on the next rally and Swenson finished the deal with her fifth kill of the game.
Northwest's final match of the St. Edward's Classic starts tonight at 7 p.m. against the host Hilltoppers.

- Northwest has won the first two games in five straight matches (3-2).
- Alex Muckey earned her first start of the season and had two kills in each of the first two games.
- Northwest survived a game point in game three before closing out the match.
