Northwest Volleyball Announces 2007 Schedule

MARYVILLE - (2007 Schedule) The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball program and head coach Anna Tool have announced the 2007 volleyball schedule, featuring the first home classic since 1994 to start off an 11-match home stretch at Bearcat Arena. The 2006 squad finished 14-19 and advanced to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Tournament for the first time since the tournament's inception in 2003.

"I'm looking forward to our 2007 schedule - we have more balance between home and away matches so we won't put on as many miles this year," Tool said. "We will face several new teams that we didn't see in 2006 - they add more variety to the schedule and allow us to play different styles of volleyball."

The Bearcats will open the season at the Nebraska-Kearney Volleyball Fall Classic on Aug. 24-25, playing two of their four matches against teams that advanced to the 2006 NCAA tournament: Northern (S.D.) State and Nebraska-Kearney. Northwest will travel to Austin, Texas, the following weekend for the St. Edward's (Texas) Volleyball Classic on Aug. 31-Sept. 1.

Northwest will host the Bearcat Classic on Sept. 7-8, with all matches held in Bearcat Arena. The weekend will be the first volleyball classic at Northwest since 1994, and will attract five teams from across the MIAA, North Central Conference and Heartland Conference.

"I'm excited to host the Bearcat Classic," Tool said. "We have quality teams coming in town to play so it should be a great weekend of volleyball. "

Conference action begins on Sept. 12 at Bearcat Arena, with Northwest hosting Southwest Baptist in the first of seven straight home matches after the Classic. Five teams that finished in the final top-25 poll last season with travel to Maryville, Mo., in that span.

"Last season, we only played six matches at home in Bearcat Arena," Tool said. "I'm excited for the challenging schedule - I think it will help us grow and improve our level of play quickly."

The Bearcats will look to return to the MIAA Tournament on Nov. 6-10 at campus sites. Four teams from the east division, of which Northwest is a part of, advances to the conference tournament. The NCAA regional tournament will begin Nov. 15.
