Four Northwest Players Honored with All-MIAA Status
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Four Northwest Missouri State volleyball players received All-MIAA honors. Senior middle hitter MacKenzie Heston (Ankeny, Iowa) and senior setter Molly Hankins (Moline, Ill.) were All-MIAA second team selections, while senior outside hitter Sarah Trowbridge (Boone, Iowa) and freshman outside hitter Priscilla Bremer (Moline, Ill.) were placed on honorable mention.
Hankins led the conference in assists per game with 12.70 and broke the Northwest individual season record of assists per game dishing out 13.01 in all games. She finished second on the Northwest individual season assists charts with 1,587 and fourth on the career assists charts with 2,213 in just two seasons. Hankins also broke the Northwest single match record of assists with 78 against Rockhurst on Oct. 24. She received honors during the season as well winning the Wilson/MIAA Specialist of the Week twice in the 2006 season; first on Aug. 28 and again on Oct. 16. In addition to these honors, she was selected for All-Tournament team in the Missouri Southern Tournament (Aug. 25-26) and the Ramada Inn Invitational hosted by Missouri Western (Sept. 1-2).
Trowbridge broke her own Northwest record of individual season attacks with 1,512 and individual overall match attacks with 81 against Missouri Western on Oct. 27. She finishes her career as Northwest's all-time record holder of total attacks with 4,411 and the career attacks per game with 10.71.
Heston finished tied for first in points per game with 4.76 and second in kills per game with 3.98 in the MIAA. She also had the match high for kills per games in four and five game matches in the MIAA. Heston broke the individual season record of kills per game at Northwest with 4.08 and finished second on individual seasons kills charts with 498. She also broke a 16-year old Northwest record with 32 kills against Missouri-St. Louis on Sept. 16. Heston received All-tournament team twice this season; first at the Missouri Southern Tournament (Aug. 25-26) and again at the Henderson State Classic (Oct. 13-14).
Bremer came on strong at the end of the season and had a .600 (24-3-35) hitting percentage in the upset 3-1 win against #12 Washburn (at the time). This hitting percentage tied her for seventh in overall match attack percentage at Northwest and tied for second on four-match attack percentage. This performance, along with two other throughout that week, gained her Wilson/MIAA Hitter of the Week on Oct. 23.
The Bearcats finished 14-19 (4-9 MIAA) for a fourth place finish in the MIAA East standings. They lost in the first round of the MIAA Tournament 3-1 to #20 Washburn on Oct. 31.
