Northwest Ends Regular Season with Loss

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.- (1-3 L) The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team dropped its second match in as many days losing to #1 Truman State 3-1. Truman came out strong in game one winning 30-20, but Northwest nearly matched that winning margin in game two with a 30-21 victory. Game three was all Truman, more than doubling the Bearcats score, winning 30-13. The Bearcats put up a fight in the final game, but come out on the losing end 30-27. Northwest did not hit over .300 in any of the four games and ended the match with a .187 team hitting percentage.

Six Northwest players recorded at least 10 digs, as senior Sarah Trowbridge topped the charts with 24. Freshman Priscilla Bremer led Northwest at the net with 18 kills, but only two other Bearcats, Trowbridge and senior MacKenzie Heston, contributed more than 12 kills. Senior Molly Hankins dished out 47 assists to move her into second all-time on the single season assists list. She has a total of 1,541 on the season, and sits 55 assists away from breaking Abby Willms record of 1,605 assists in the 1997 season.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Sarah Shearman at the net and on the floor with 21 kills and 26 digs. The stats topped the charts of both teams. She was complimented by Allie Cherven with 19 kills, and Kelsey Wackerman with 12 kills and 35 assists.

Truman kept its winning streak alive, currently at 32, and have not lost since its first match of the season. They now sit 32-1 overall (13-0 MIAA) and will host Emporia State in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.

After the loss Northwest is 14-18 overall and 4-9 in the MIAA. The Bearcats have the #4 seed in the East and will play #1 seed Washburn on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. in Topeka, Kan. in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. The Bearcats upset #12 Washburn (at the time) 3-1 on Oct. 17 in Maryville, Mo.

NOTES: Trowbrigde broke the individual career attacks record in last night match-up with Missouri Western ... She has a career total of 4,333 attacks, which moved her past Diann Davis who recorded 4,246 in her Bearcats playing days.
