Northwest Can't Get Past #11 Cental Missouri 3-1 on Senior Day
MARYVILLE, Mo. - (1-3 L) Northwest Missouri State volleyball could not defeat two ranked opponents in a row losing 3-1 to #11 University of Central Missouri on senior night. The Bearcats dropped the first two games 30-24 and 31-29. In game three, Northwest won 30-17 aided by a team hitting percentage of.405. The 17 points allowed is the lowest ever allowed to the Jennies since rally scoring was instituted in 2001. Game four was all Central Missouri winning 30-21. A 7-7 tie was broke in the final game with the Jennies serving a 7-0 run. The Bearcats could not chip away at the eight point lead as the Jennies closed out the match.
Northwest was led by senior Sarah Trowbridge who topped the chart in three statistical categories. She led the Bearcats in kills, digs and blocks with 21, 24 and five respectively. Three other Bearcats recorded at least 11 kills with freshman Priscilla Bremer trailing Trowbridge with 18 kills. Senior MacKenzie Heston had the best percentage at the net with a. 324 (15-4-34) hitting percentage, while chipping in 15 kills. Fellow classmate Molly Hankins recorded 60 assists topping the 60 mark for the second straight match.
The Jennies were led by Jacquelyn Williams with an amazing .652 (15-0-23) hitting percentage and no errors. Her teammates Lauren Nuckolls and Jillian Ohrman also added double digit kills with 17 and 14. Defensively, Audrey Jensen and Katie Tarka supplied the majority of the Jennies digs with 21 and 30.
The loss extended a 13 match losing streak to 14 and gave Central Missouri head coach Peggy Martin her 1,000 career victory. Northwest is now 13-16 overall and 4-7 in MIAA competition.
Northwest has just three matches remaining, two of whom are nationally ranked in #16 Rockhurst and #1 Truman State. The Bearcats will be on the road for a #16 Rockhurst match on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and a Missouri Western match on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. The Bearcats will close out their regular season schedule traveling to #1 Truman State on Saturday, Oct. 28 for a 2 p.m. match.
