Bearcats Split in Final Day: Finish 3-1 Overall

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - (3-0 W) (1-3 L) Northwest Missouri State split a pair of matches today to wrap up the Henderson State Tournament. Northwest beat West Florida 3-0, but lost to #19 North Alabama 3-1. The second match, scheduled for 5 p.m., was delayed nearly two hours because of lengthy matches throughout the day. It started at approximately 7 p.m.

In the West Florida match it was all Northwest sweeping the Argonauts for the second of the weekend. All three games were competitive with the Bearcats winning 30-24, 30-28 and 30-25. In game two, the Bearcats were on the winning end of 19 ties and 12 lead changes. The Bearcats recorded 20 kills in both games one and three hitting better than .250 in both games.

Senior Molly Hankins moved into eighth for individual season assists with 1,177 after the match. Senior MacKenzie Heston led the offensive attack with 15 kills, while senior Sarah Trowbridge and Freshman Priscilla Bremer contributed 14 and 13 kills. Five Bearcats touched the double-digit digs mark with Hankins topping the Bearcat charts with 14. Bremer recorded her second double-double of the season in the match with 10 digs.

The second match, against #19 North Alabama, was definitely a tougher test for the Bearcats. The Lady Lions came out strong in game one limiting the Bearcats to only 8 kills and a negative hitting percentage. In games two through four Northwest showed up and battled with North Alabama, winning game three with an impressive .429 hitting percentage.

Senior MacKenzie Heston led the offensive attack with 17 kills and a .361 hitting percentage. Heston also topped the digs charts with 14 and added six total blocks. Heston, fellow classmate Sarah Trowbridge and Freshman Priscilla Bremer all recorded double-doubles in the match. Junior Katie Stilwell served three aces in the match tying her season high.

Coach Anna Tool was pleased with her team's performance over the weekend, "Our team should be extremely proud of their performance this weekend, plus it gave us a good challenge for this upcoming week and the MIAA tournament."

Northwest went 3-1 in it's opening tournament at Missouri Southern on Aug. 25 and 26. This is the third and final tournament for the Bearcats before they close out MIAA play on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Truman State.

Northwest will play ranked opponent in its next three matches. First, two home matches against #12 Washburn on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. and #11 University of Central Missouri on Saturday, Oct 21 at 5 p.m. The third ranked opponent is #16 Rockhurst on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.
