Northwest Blanks SBU
MARYVILLE, Mo. - (3-0 W) Northwest Missouri State volleyball blanked Southwest Baptist tonight 3-0. The first game was nip and tuck the whole way finishing in the Bearcats favor 30-28. Games two and three were an entire different story. In game two Northwest held SBU to 12 points, the lowest amount Northwest has ever allowed to SBU since going to the 30 point scoring in 2001. Junior Katie Stilwell served a 9-0 run at the start of this game with two aces. Game three was the same story as the Bearcats won 30-22.
Senior Sarah Trowbridge led the team in kills with 18 and also chipped in 13 digs. She also hit .395 at the net aiding a .310 team hitting percentage. It is the first time Northwest has hit above .300 since the last time they beat SBU on Sept. 5. Senior MacKenzie Heston topped the Northwest digs chart with 14 and added 12 kills. The performance moved Heston into fifth all-time on the career kills list with 1,301. She needs another 21 kills for full posession of fourth place. Senior Molly Hankins topped the assists category for both teams with 46.
SBU had only one player with double digit kills with Brittni Jessen recording 11. Mistin Baser led both teams in digs with 18.
The Bearcats are now 9-13 (3-5 MIAA).
The Bearcats travel to Pittsburg State tomorrow for a 6:30 p.m. match. It will be the first and only meeting between Pittsburg State and Northwest Missouri State on Saturday.
