Bearcats Dominate Fort Hays State
MARYVILLE, Mo. - (3-0 W) Northwest Missouri State volleyball team swept Fort Hays State today by scores of 30-21, 30-23, and 30-21. The Bearcats took advantage of the Lady Tigers with a slew of runs. In all three games Northwest posted a 6-0 runs that either extended small leads or broke ties. A 7-0 run in game two, led by the serving of sophomore Amy Bohnker, broke a 17-17 tie to close out Fort Hays. In game three a pair of 6-0 runs by Northwest crushed the Lady Tigers.
Northwest was again led by senior MacKenzie Heston with 13 kills, the sixth straight match Heston has led, while Bohnker recorded 10 kills to tie her career high. Defensively, the Bearcats were led by senior Sarah Trowbridge and junior Nicole Wojtowicz with 22 and 19 digs respectively. Senior Molly Hankins led both teams with 37 assists in front of 207 volleyball fans.
Fort Hays State struggled offensivley hitting .000 as a team and not one player recorded double digit kills. Two players, Sarah Schinstock and Leanna Roberts, each recorded nine kills. Whitney Hoffman led the team defensively with 26 digs.
The win gives Northwest a 8-12 (2-5 MIAA) overall record.
Northwest plays at #16 Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. and come home on Friday, Otc. 6 for a match against Southwest Baptist at 7 p.m. The Bearcats travel to Pittsburg State on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a 6:30 p.m. match. Northwest seeks revenge against Nebraska-Omaha after losing early in the season 3-0 and looks for a sweep against Baptist after winning 3-1 in Boliver on Sept. 5. It will be the first and only meeting between Pittsburg State and Northwest Missouri State on Saturday.
