#25 Southern Beats Northwest 3-1
JOPLIN, Mo. - (3-1 L) The Bearcats won the first game, 30-23, then dropped three in a row (30-19, 30-22, 30-18) for their fourth straight loss. In game one Northwest hit .378 but did not get above .239 after that making it tough to get points. "Southern just made too many runs," coach Tool commented about the last three games. Again Northwest struggled at the net recording only five team blocks and a team hitting percentage of .230. The loss gives Northwest a 7-12 (1-5 MIAA) overall record.
Senior MacKenzie Heston led the Bearcats in kills for the fifth straight match with 20 while senior Sarah Trowbridge was a close second recording 19. Five Bearcats had at least 11 digs led by Junior Nicole Wojtowicz with 24. Wojtowicz has moved back to Libero the last few matches after being replaced in the Missouri Western match. Senior Molly Hankins recorded 55 assists to lead both teams.
The Lions shared the kills at the net with four recording 11 or more led by Ashley Mehrer. Mehrer also led the defense at the net with 5 total blocks. Megan Norman defended the Northwest attacks with 22 digs.
The Bearcats come home for a match against Fort Hays State Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. in hopes to find their winning ways.
