Northwest loses Second Match of the Weekend
TOPEKA, Kan. - (3-1 L) The Northwest Volleyball battled #8 Wasburn to 3-1 loss. The first three games were all within 3 points as the Bearcats lost games one and two 30-28, 30-27 and won game three 30-28. The Bearcats dropped game four 30-19 as the Lady Blues did not let Northwest get a game five.
Senior MacKenzie Heston again led the Bearcats in kills with 21 while senior Sarah Trowbridge chipped in 11. Junior Nicole Wojtowicz recorded a career high in digs with 31, while another four Bearcats added at least 10 apiece. Senior Molly Hankins dished out her usual assists with 52. Northwest continued to struggle at the net recording only four blocks as a team tonight.
The Lady Blues were led by Erica Cowhick with 44 digs, defensively. Tessa Jones recorded 16 kills while Mandi Cox chipped in 15 kills, an impressive .394 hitting percentage, and 6 total blocks.
After the loss Northwest is now 7-11 overall and 1-4 in the MIAA. The Bearcats are in action this week at Missouri Southern on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.. Then the Cats come home for a match against Fort Hays State Sept. 30 at 2 p.m.
