Northwest Volleyball Splits a two match set at Central Missouri
WARRENSBURG, Mo. - (3-1 L) (3-2 W) The Northwest volleyball team split today in a two match set at Central Missouri State. The opening match tipped off at 11:00 a.m. against ninth-ranked Central Missouri State. The Bearcats split the first two games before the Jennies took the final two games 30-17 and 30-25 to win 3-1. Freshman Priscilla Bremer and senior Allison Hyland led the Bearcats offensively recording 14 kills apiece. Defensively Norhtwest had a complete team effort as five Bearcats had at least 15 digs. Senior MacKenzie Heston led the way with 18. It was the third MIAA match for Northwest and they are now 1-2 in conference.
The second match against University of Missouri-St. Louis at 1:30 p.m. went five games with Northwest coming back from 2-1 down to win games four and five. In game four the Bearcats went on a 15-9 run to tie the match up 2-2. The fifth game was all Northwest as they won 15-7. Heston broke a 16 year record by recording 32 kills in the five game match. The previous record holder, Kathy Lauher, recorded 31 on Oct. 3 1990 against Rollins. Senior Molly Hankins nearly tied her single match career high in assists with 58. Hankins recorded 59 Against Southwest Baptist this year on Sept. 9. The team recorded a total of 11 aces to help give the Bearcats the win.
Northwest will be at home this Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7:00 p.m. against rival Missouri Western. The Bearcats will then head to Kansas on Friday and Saturday taking on Emporia State on Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m. and Washburn on Sept. 23 at 5:00 p.m.
