2006 Schedule Announced; Fort Hays Joins LeagueMARYVILLE, Mo. -- (2006 Schedule) Northwest Missouri State volleyball settles in for six home matches in 2006 in addition to facing seven Top 25 teams from a season ago, which is part of the volleyball schedule announced by head coach Anna Tool today. Northwest battles Fort Hays State in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) action for the first time with the FHSU Tigers coming to Bearcat Arena Sept. 30 for a 2 p.m. start.
"It is going to be tough on the road so much," said Tool, who became the coach on Jan. 12. "Plus, playing so many quality teams at their place. It is going to be a challenge but the players have shown in their training this season they are ready to step it up and be ready."
The Bearcats wait until Sept. 12 for their first home match with Truman State visiting Bearcat Arena. Before that, Northwest participates in three tournaments and a road contest at Southwest Baptist (Sept. 5) to open up the MIAA season.
Overall, Northwest takes on seven teams who were ranked in last year's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Final Top 25 (Dec. 7). Three of those clubs hail from the league and all were 11th or better, Central Missouri State (No. 11), Truman (No. 4) and Washburn (No. 10).
Other key matches to note include Missouri Western coming to Maryville on Sept. 20 (7 p.m.) and the Jennies of CMSU on Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. during Homecoming. The MIAA Tournament begins with first round play at the higher seed on Oct. 31 with the Semifinals and Championship at the No. 1 seed on Nov. 3-4.
The Bearcats finished 2005 with a 15-19 overall record and welcome back eight letterwinners.
