Northwest Down by Truman at Home
Maryville, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team was downed this afternoon by No. 9 Truman in three games, 30-18, 30-26 and 30-24.
The Bearcats and Truman played tightly throughout the match, playing to 21 ties and 11 lead changes. Northwest and Truman went to four ties and two lead changes in game one. In game two, it was tied 10 times and the lead flip-flopped five times. In game three, the Lady Bulldogs and Bearcats went to seven ties and four changes in the lead.
In game two, Truman pulled away after the scored was tied at 13, while Northwest was down by as much as five in the game.
For the Bearcats offensively, they were led by junior Sarah Trowbridge (Boone, Iowa), who had her twelfth double-double of the season with a match high 16 kills to along with 11 digs. Trowbridge also had a match high 16 points.
Sophomore Lauren Cummings (Ankeny, Iowa) continued her hot streak, coming up with 11 kills and one service ace. Cummings also hit .364 on the afternoon, and for the week she came up with an attack percentage of .500.
The Bearcats went with one setter against the Lady Bulldogs, with sophomore Katie Stilwell (W. Des Moines, Iowa) coming up with a season high 35 assists.
As a team, Northwest hit just .158 and gave away seven service errors and had five reception errors. While the Bearcats only had one service ace, but forced Truman into six service errors.
After the loss, Northwest now falls to 13-17 overall and 3-10 in the MIAA, while Truman is 21-5 overall and 10-3 in the conference. Up next for Northwest is a dance with Pittsburg State at Bearcat Arena Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
