Northwest Sweeps Mo. West in St. Joe
St. Joseph, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team swept through Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association competition tonight against Missouri Western, 3-0 (30-20, 30-25, 30-25).
The Bearcats and Mo. West tied only 18 times in the match and only switched leads 11 times. Northwest had an attack percentage of .324, just its fourth time this season over .300. The highest attack percentage for the Bearcats came on Sept. 2 against South Dakota, when Northwest hit .360.
Individually for the Bearcats, they were led in blocking by junior MacKenzie Heston (Ankeny, Iowa), who had six blocks. As a team, Northwest had eight blocks, 10 assisted and three solo.
Northwest was led offensively by sophomore Lauren Cummings (Ankeny, Iowa), who had a match high .667 attack percentage; along with a team high 13 kills. Cummings also had two assisted blocks on the night.
Heston also had a career high four service aces to go along with 10 kills and a .300 attack percentage.
The setters for the Bearcats combined for 44 assists, with junior Molly Hankins (Moline, Ill.) coming in with 25 and sophomore Katie Stilwell (W. Des Moines, Iowa) chipping in with 19 assists.
The Bearcats are now 13-16 overall and 3-9 in the MIAA, while Mo. West goes to 15-11 overall and 5-6 in the conference. Up next for Northwest is a showdown with No. 9 Truman on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. in Bearcat Arena.
