Northwest Take Central Mo. to four games
MARYVILLE, Mo. - After winning three out of four last weekend, the Northwest Missouri State volleyball team fell to Central Missouri today at Bearcat Arena (30-27, 15-30, 22-30, 23-30) -- and have been defeated three times this week.
The Bearcat defense did not have much of an answer against the Central offense, with the Jennies' getting 70 kills and six service aces. Northwest was able to block Central Missouri 10 times, with eight blocks coming from sophomore Lauren Cummings (Ankeny, Iowa).
During the match there were a total of 25 ties and 16 lead changes, with 11 ties and five lead changes coming in game one. In game two the led changed hands once, while the third game it went back up to nine ties and seven lead changes. In the final game, it came out to five ties and three lead changes.
The Northwest offense attack was led by junior Sarah Trowbridge (Boone, Iowa), who had a team high 15 kills. Fellow classmate MacKenzie Heston (Ankeny, Iowa) and sophomore Rachel Spensley (Dubuque, Iowa) had 11 and 10 kills respectively.
The two setters for the Bearcats, junior Molly Hankins (Moline, Ill.) and sophomore Katie Stilwell (W. Des Moines, Iowa) came away with 27 and 20 assists. Stilwell is just 111 assist from moving up into a tie for career assists at Northwest.
The Bearcats now move to 12-16 overall and 2-9 in the MIAA, while Central Missouri goes to 18-7 overall and 9-3 in the conference. Up next for Northwest is a Wednesday Oct. 19 match against Missouri Western at St. Joseph.
