Bearcat Volleyball is Stung by Hornets
EMPORIA, Kan. - The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team got back to MIAA action tonight against Emporia State, but fell in three games, 3-0 (22-30, 25-30, 27-30).
Emporia as a team came away with 60 kills to only 31 for the Bearcats; however the Northwest defense forced ESU into 33 attacking errors. The Bearcats also have five service aces as well, but nine service errors in the match.
Northwest went after the Emporia attack, blocking the Hornets 14 times, including two solo's and six assists from sophomore Lauren Cummings (Ankeny, Iowa). Cummings had a match high eight blocks, followed up by teammates junior MacKenzie Heston (Ankeny, Iowa) and freshman Amy Bohnker (Underwood, Iowa) coming in with six and five blocks respectively.
Offensively for the Bearcats, they were led by junior Sarah Trowbridge (Boone, Iowa), who had the team high in kills with 12 and 17 digs. It was Trowbridge's 10 double-double of the season.
Northwest now moves to 12-14 overall and 2-7 in the MIAA and will now play Washburn, Friday at 7 p.m. at home and on Saturday at noon at home against Central Missouri.
