Bearcats Split Second Day at HSU-OBU Classic
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team split the second day of the Henderson State-Ouachita Baptist Classic, against No. 8 North Alabama and co-host Ouachita Baptist.
The Bearcats were beaten by North Alabama in straight games, 30-19, 30-17 and 30-23. In the night cap however, Northwest pulled off the victory over Ouachita Baptist in five games, 30-23, 20-30, 31-33, 30-25 and 15-10.
In the afternoon match Northwest was led by junior MacKenzie Heston (Ankeny, Iowa) with 10 kills and 10.5 points. Sophomore Rachel Spensley (Dubuque, Iowa) had the team high in digs with eight.
In the final match of the weekend for the Bearcats, they were led by Spensley's 23 kills, which ties a career best and she set a career high in digs with 28. Junior Sarah Trowbridge (Boone, Iowa) had her ninth double-double of the season, after she collected 18 kills and 14 digs.
Freshman Annie Rice (Lincoln, Neb.) had a career high 27 digs in the late match, while the Northwest setters combined for 62 assists. Junior Molly Hankins (Moline, Ill.) led the way with 38, while junior Tina Cipolla (Overland Park, Kan.) and sophomore Katie Stilwell (W. Des Moines, Iowa) each had 12.
The Bearcats are now 12-13 overall, and will pick MIAA action back up on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Emporia State.
