Volleyball Wins for First Time In Six Matches
Boone, Iowa-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team got back into the 'W' column with a win over Upper Iowa last night, 3-1 (30-24, 25-30, 30-14, 30-15).
In game one, the Bearcats opened up with a 3-0 lead, and held on to the lead throughout the first game. Northwest extended its lead by as much as six (23-17), on a kill by sophomore Rachel Spensley (Dubuque, Iowa).
Northwest in game two, hit a low of .167 and held a lead at 3-2, but Upper Iowa went up by as much as 11. The Bearcats in game two had 10 errors, which was their highest of the night.
Overall for the Bearcats, junior Sarah Trowbridge (Boone, Iowa) had a game high 24 kills, which is a career high -- her previous high was 22. Spensley came in with 14 on the night, while sophomore Lauren Cummings (Ankeny, Iowa) followed her up with 13. Cummings also had a team high .440 attack percentage.
Spensley also had her second double-double in just three matches with 10 digs and the before mentioned 14 kills. Sophomore setter Katie Stilwell also had a double-double in the match with 30 assists and 12 digs, which was her fourth of the season.
Both Stilwell and junior Molly Hankins (Moline, Ill.) had game high 30 assists, while freshman Amy Bohnker (Underwood, Iowa) had a match high six blocks.
Northwest with the win moves to 7-10 on the season, while Upper Iowa goes to 9-12. The Bearcats will jump back into MIAA action tomorrow night down in Pittsburg at 6 p.m., a place Northwest has not won since 1999.
