Volleyball Falls to Emporia State in MIAA Opener
Maryville, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team was downed tonight by undefeated Emporia State at Bearcat Arena, 3-1 (30-28, 29-31, 23-30, 23-30).
The Bearcats were able to pull off the win in game one, but the momentum switched to Emporia in the second game, and the Hornets were able to pull off three straight victories. In game three Northwest's attack percent dipped down to .081.
For Northwest, they were led by junior Sarah Trowbridge (Boone, Iowa) and her game high 20 kills, while sophomore Lauren Cummings (Ankeny, Iowa) came up with 17 kills and junior MacKenzie Heston (Ankeny, Iowa) had 10 kills.
The Bearcats used their two setter system and junior Molly Hankins (Moline, Ill.) and sophomore Katie Stilwell (W. Des Moines, Iowa) each had 25 assists. Hankins had her third double double of the season with a game high 21 digs.
The errors were also down for the 'Cats as they had the low in the match with 21 attack errors and made12 service errors.
Northwest will be back in action on Friday Sept. 16 against No. 11 Washburn on the road and then Saturday travel to Warrensburg to play No. 10 Central Missouri. The Bearcats fall 6-6 on the season and 0-1 in the MIAA.
