Volleyball Wins First Match in Florida
Saint Leo, Fla.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball got back to their winning ways tonight against Saint Leo University in a 3-0 victory (30-26, 30-26, 34-32). This was their second match down in Florida this week with final match being played tomorrow.
The Bearcats had four athletes in double digit kills tonight with sophomore Lauren Cummings (Ankeny, Iowa) leading the charge with 12. Junior classmates MacKenzie Heston (Ankeny, Iowa) and Sarah Trowbridge (Boone, Iowa) each had 11 kills, along with sophomore Rachel Spensley (Dubuque, Iowa).
Junior Molly Hankins (Moline, Ill.) was the primary setter in the match against Saint Leo, as she dished out 39, while the team had 44.
The Bearcats also got brought down their errors in the match after Wednesday night's loss against Central Florida. Tonight the 'Cats had 22 attack errors, nine service errors and three service errors, to bring Northwest's attacking percent to .209 in the match.
Up next for Northwest is match against No. 7 Tampa (0-1 all-time) at 4 p.m. EST tomorrow. The Bearcats will have their home opener on Wednesday Sept. 14 against Emporia State. Northwest is now 6-4 on the season.
