Volleyball Splits First Day at Mo. West Invitational
St. Joseph, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team was back in action tonight at the Missouri Western Ramada Inn Invitational. The Bearcats split their first two matches of the invitational against West Florida, 2-3 and South Dakota, 3-0.
In the first match against West Florida, Northwest won games two and four, while West Florida won games one, three and five. In the matches the Bearcats won, they held West Florida to a -.026 attack percent and .205. Northwest used a .128 attack percent in game two and in game four .421.
For the Bearcats, junior Sarah Trowbridge (Boone, Iowa) and sophomore Rachel Spensley (Dubuque, Iowa) had a game high 13 kills. Sophomore Katie Stilwell (W. Des Monies, Iowa) had a team high 22 assist. Stilwell's assists put her three behind the eighth place spot on the Northwest all-time assists record.
In match two of the evening; the Bearcats took advantage of 22 errors and a .140 attack percent to sweep South Dakota.
Northwest used four athletes in double digit kills in the victory, Trowbridge had a match high 17 kills, sophomore Lauren Cummings (Ankeny, Iowa) chipped in with 10, Spensley and junior MacKenzie Heston (Ankeny, Iowa) each had 11.
Stilwell in match two came away with 22 more assists to move herself into eighth place at Northwest, with 1040 career assist. She is 135 assists away from moving into seventh place on the all-time assist record book.
The Bearcats will be back in action tomorrow at noon against No. 10 Fort Hays State (2-3-1 all-time) and at 4 p.m. against Central Oklahoma (2-3 all-time) all at the Missouri Western Ramada Inn Invitational.
