Northwest Announces 2005 Volleyball Schedule

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Taking part in three tournaments and competing against a trio of Florida schools headlines the 2005 Northwest Missouri State volleyball schedule, announced today by second-year head coach Lori Slight. Northwest will have nine home matches including non-conference opponent Nebraska-Omaha on Oct. 4

The season begins with two tournaments hosted by Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) foes Missouri Southern (Aug. 26-27) and Missouri Western (Sept. 2-3). Then, Northwest gets tested by more road action - extending its season-opening streak to five away sites - against Sunshine State Conference members Florida Southern (Sept. 7), Saint Leo (Sept. 9) and Tampa (Sept. 10).

The Bearcats open up MIAA play and their home slate with a battle versus Emporia State on Sept. 14. In the next home match, the Griffons come to Bearcat Arena on Sept. 21. Northwest faces league champion and the 2004 second-ranked team nationally Truman State on Sept. 24 in Kirksville, Mo.

Two other nationally ranked opponents from last season, Central Missouri State (9) and Washburn (16), are on the schedule back-to-back nights, Sept. 16 & Sept. 17 on the road. The Bearcats face Upper Iowa, a program new to the NCAA Division II ranks in the 2004-05 season, at Boone High School on Sept. 26.

The MIAA Tournament begins on Nov. 8 with the champion being crowned on Nov. 12.

The Bearcats finished the 2004 season with the most victories in four seasons at 15-18 overall and 6-10 in league play.
