Bearcats Claim Success on Senior Day
MARYVILLE, Mo. -Northwest Missouri State defeated Missouri Southern today in four games for its last home match. The 'Cats recognized Steph Suntken before the match as their sole senior. Suntken had an amazing performance to close out her home competition.
The game scores were 30-28, 30-19, 25-30, 30-19. The Bearcats came out strong in the first two games hitting .292 and .464 respectively. The Lions hit .000 for game two and hit negative for game four giving them an overall .074 hitting percentage.
Northwest hit .255 (61-21-157), had six service aces and 16 total team blocks. Its record improves to 15-17 overall and 6-10 in the MIAA. Missouri Southern has a similar record for the season with 15-7 and 6-9 in the MIAA.
Suntken led the team in kills (15), hitting percentage (.423) and blocks with nine. Her efforts, combined with 12 kills each from Sarah Trowbridge and Lauren Cummings, helped the 'Cats claim success today.
Jackie Gallagher led the Lions with 18 kills.
The win for Northwest keeps it in the running for a conference tournament bid. The top six teams in the conference will advance to the tournament and the rankings will depend heavily on the records from this weekend. The top six will be announced Tues., Nov. 2.
The Bearcats travel to Nebraska-Omaha on Tues., Nov. 2 for a 7:00 p.m. match-up. The match is the last regular season contest for the Bearcats.
