Bearcats Grab First Three-game Conference Win
MARYVILLE, Mo. -Northwest Missouri State grabbed its first three-game conference win of the season tonight against Southwest Baptist.
Game one was the closest game with Southwest Baptist tying the game at 11 and again at 22 before the Northwest pulled away with the 30-28 victory.
SBU led for the first few points of the second game. NWMSU came back from a 9-3 deficit to tie the game at 13-13. Northwest won the next 11 of 17 points to take a 24-19 lead which they did not surrender as they won the game 30-23.
Northwest led game three from the start taking off to a 9-3 advantage. Lauren Cummings had eight kills in the next 12 points for the Bearcats. The Northwest bench was cleared for game three and Katie Stilwell and Carly Setterlund blocked for the final two points to bring the 'Cats to a 30-21 sweep.
The Northwest Bearcats hit .283 (55-19-127) while holding Southwest Baptist to only .162 (34-18-99). The 'Cats out-served SBU eight service aces to one.
Cummings led the offensive categories for Northwest with 13 kills hitting .440. Two other 'Cats hit above .350 for the night. Steph Suntken hit .389 with 10 kills and six digs. Sarah Trowbridge hit .360 also with 10 kills and six digs. Caylee Meyer had 28 assists and four service aces on the night.
Jenny Madrid led Southwest with 13 kills and three block assists.
Northwest's record improves to 14-17 and 5-10 in the MIAA. Southwest Baptist falls to 1-27 and 0-15 in the MIAA.
The Bearcats play tomorrow (Oct. 30) to wrap up regular season conference action. They face Missouri Southern at noon.
