Northwest Volleyball Defeats Rockhurst, Sets Records
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State defeated Rockhurst in four games this afternoon. The Bearcats dominated the Hawks on the offense and defense as they soared past season records in individual kills (25) and team blocks (20.5).
The Bearcats started out strong with a 30-21 win in game one. Northwest hit .342 (19-6-38) in the first game compared to the Hawks .034 hitting percentage (7-6-29).
The second game was led by the 'Cats as they came out on top with a 30-28 win.
The Hawks rallied back in game three to defeat Northwest 30-26. Rockhurst had their first and only above .200 hitting percentage in the third game hitting .211 to Northwest's .214.
Game four was back and forth to the end as the 'Cats won the last two points with kills by Sarah Trowbridge and Allison Hyland to capture the 31-29 victory.
Freshman Lauren Cummings hit an amazing .676 hitting percentage, recording 25 kills and only two hitting errors in 34 attacks. Defensively, Cummings tied her season high blocks with nine. Allison Hyland also blocked nine attacks with teammate Steph Suntken blocking eight.
The win pushes Northwest to 12-12 overall. Rockhurst falls to 16-5 for the season.
The Bearcats host Emporia State on Wed., Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. Earlier this season (Sept. 15), the 'Cats defeated Emporia State in five games.
