Northwest Wins Home Opener
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State volleyball won its home opener tonight against South Dakota in five games. The game scores were 28-30, 32-34, 30-24, 32-30, 15-7. The match brought both teams to a 2-3 record overall.
Mackenzie Heston had a stellar performance with 21 kills and six blocks. She led five other 'Cats in double-digit kills for a total of 25.5 points. Lauren Cummings chipped in 19 kills, two assists, four service aces and four blocks for a team-high 26 points.
The Bearcats ruled on the offense with a .237 hitting percentage (88-35-224) and held the Coyotes to .175 (65-31-194). Both teams recorded 10 blocks each while Northwest had 10 service aces and South Dakota had three.
The Coyotes were led by Lindsey Soukup with 22 kills, 16 digs and three blocks followed by Laura Marske with 12 kills and four blocks.
The Bearcats continue their busy week by traveling to Benedictine tomorrow (Sept. 1) in Atchison, Kan. at 7:00 p.m. This weekend (Sept. 3-4) Northwest will be at the Missouri Western Tournament.
