Bearcats Drop a Pair at Henderson
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the final day of the Henderson State Tournament. Saturday, the 'Cats fell to North Alabama, 3-0. Game scores were 23-30, 20-30 and 31-33. Later in the day, Northwest fell to host Henderson State, 3-0. Game scores were 28-30, 27-30 and 28-30. The Bearcats now stand at 4-20 on the season.
In the opening match of the day, the 'Cats ran into a tough North Alabama team that held the Bearcats to a .000 attack percentage in the first game. Though Northwest came back to hit better, North Alabama proved too much, taking the match, 3-0.
Leading the way for the 'Cats was junior Steph Suntken (Indianola, Iowa). Suntken tallied nine kills, six digs, two solo blocks and three block assists. Junior Amy Ruff (Excelsior Springs, Mo.) added six kills, while freshman Mackenzie Heston chipped in with six killds, seven digs, one solo block and four block assists.
The Bearcats came out fired up in game two against a solid Henderson State team. The two teams battled throughout the match, but the Lady Reddies were determined to defend their home court. Henderson State took the match, 3-0.
Melea Zacharias (Parkersburg, Iowa) led the charge with 12 kills, nine digs and two solo blocks. Suntken notched seven kills, five digs, three solo blocks and two service aces.
The 'Cats will be back in action, as they return to MIAA play Wednesday night in Emporia, Kan. First serve between the Hornets and the Bearcats is set for 7 p.m.
