
PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team dropped its 16th consecutive match of the season with a loss to No. 14 Pittsburg State, 3-0, Wednesday night in Pittsburg. Game scores were 13-30, 17-30 and 28-30. The loss drops the Bearcats' record to 2-16 overall, 0-6 in the MIAA.
The Gorillas, winners of 15 consecutive matches, stopped the Bearcats cold from the beginning. Northwest was held to negative attack percentages in the first two games, tallying only eight kills.
The third game, the 'Cats matched Pitt State with 17 kills but were unable to overcome the nationally ranked Gorillas, dropping the match, 3-0.
Leading the way for the Bearcats were senior Leah Day (Independence, Mo.) and junior Steph Suntken (Indianola, Iowa) with seven kills each. Freshman Mackenzie Heston (Ankeny, Iowa) chipped in with five kills and junior Melea Zacharias (Parkersburg, Iowa) added nine digs.
The 'Cats will be back in action Friday night, hosting Southwest Baptist University at 7 p.m. in Bearcat Arena.
