Northwest Falls to No. 20 Central Missouri State
WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team dropped a tough 3-0 decision to No. 20 Central Missouri State Saturday in Warrensburg. Game scores were 18-30, 28-30 and 18-30. With the loss, the 'Cats move to 2-13 on the season, 0-3 in the MIAA. After opening the season with two victories, Northwest has dropped 13 consecutive matches.
For the second straight day, the Bearcats faced a nationally ranked opponent that came out with tight defense. The Jennies allowed the 'Cats only nine kills en route to winning the first game. Northwest came out strong in game two, holding Central to only a .152 attack percentage, but the Jennies proved too much. The Bearcats dropped the second game, 28-30.
Needing a win to keep the match alive, the 'Cats came out swinging. Northwest posted its best attack percentage, .162, of the match in the third game, but it was not enough. Central took game three, 30-18, and the match, 3-0.
For Northwest, junior Steph Suntken (Indianola, Iowa) notched a double-double, with 12 kills and 13 digs. She also added two service aces. Freshman Mackenzie Heston (Ankeny, Iowa) chipped in with eight kills and seven digs.
The 'Cats will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 24, taking on rival Missouri Western at Bearcat Arena. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
