Schluter takes top honors at Dutch Athletics Classic
PELLA, Iowa. – The Northwest Missouri State track and field teams competed at the Dutch Athletics Classic over the weekend in Pella, Iowa. The Bearcats sent a small squad to compete in the multi-events. Derrick Schuter won the men’s heptathlon and Hannah Churchman placed second in the women’s pentathlon.
Schuter won the event by 202 points in a field that included 17 competitors. He had 2,521 points after day one and added 1,978 on day two to finish with 4,499. DeAndre Thomas also competed for Northwest and finished with 3,920 points.
On the women’s side, Churchman placed second out of 17 athletes, scoring 3,032 points. Kaley Hauschild and Bryn Matulka finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
Up next, Northwest will head to Seward, Neb., to compete in the Concordia Classic on Saturday, Feb. 1.
