Track and field finishes multi-site weekend

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Northwest Missouri State track and field teams competed at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational and the Fred Beile Classic over the weekend. Northwest had seven athletes compete at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb., while the Fred Beile Classic was held at Doane College in Crete, Neb.

LINCOLN (Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational)

Ashton Nibert set a school record and hit an NCAA provisional mark in the 400 meters, finishing 12th in 56.45. Teammate Alexis Boyd was 32nd in 58.24. Anne Herbert placed 10th in the 5,000 meters, running 18:02.90. Haley Manning ran 2:25.31 to place 15th in the 800. Sam Fender ran in the 60-meter dash prelims on Friday, running 7.99.

On the men’s side, Nolan Zimmer continued his strong season with an NCAA provisional mark in the 5,000, finishing fourth in 14:39.00. Drew Keefer finished 10th in the same event, running 15:02.84.

DOANE (Fred Beile Classic)

LeKeisha McKnight hit a pair of provisional marks on Saturday at Doane College. McKnight finished second in the shot put with a provisional throw of 47-01.50. In the weight throw, McKnight was fifth with a provisional mark of 53-8. Taylor Woodruff won the women’s mile in 5:23.55. In the high jump, Northwest had two competitors ties for fifth, as Ashley Schumaker and Hannah Churchman each cleared 5-3.75. Sam Fender made the trip from UNL to compete in the long jump at Doane, marking 17-9.

On the men’s side, Tim Grundmayer finished second in the 600, running 1:22.33. He was followed by teammate Ryan Cox who was third in 1:23.62. Desmand Jackson was 16th in the 60, running 7.23.

The Bearcats will compete in two different locations next week, beginning on Feb. 13 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. Northwest will also send student-athletes to the Concordia Invite in Seward, Neb.
