Four Bearcats head to NCAA Championships
Two women and two men from the Northwest Missouri State track and field teams have qualified for the 2013 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Each individual will be making their first trip to the outdoor national meet being held May 23-25 in Pueblo, Co.
Sophomore Chloe Wichmann will compete in the heptathlon. The Kirksville, Mo. native posted her season best score of 4825 points just last week in the Hillsdale (Michigan) Classic. She will be joined on the women’s side by junior Ashton Nibert. Nibert, from Independence, Mo., posted the 9th best time in the nation in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.56 at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita on April 13.
On the men’s side Will Haer will be competing in the pole vault. The junior from Craig, Mo. put together an impressive performance at the MIAA conference meet earlier this month in capturing the MIAA title in the event; his fourth title of the spring season. Haer will enter the national meet coming off a career best mark of 16-3.50. Joining Haer will be junior John Petroff throwing the discus. The Chesterfield, Mo. native posted a career best and NCAA qualifying throw of 175-02 during the Northwest Open last month.
The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place May 23-25 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl on the campus of Colorado State-Pueblo. Last year three Bearcats competed in the Championships and all three (Lekiesha McKnight, Brittany Poole and Kate Walter) earned All-American honors.
