Bearcats win three titles at Viking Classic

Complete Results

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Northwest Missouri State track and field teams saw three individuals earn titles Friday at the Grand View Viking Classic.

Senior Megan Elder picked up the lone title for the Bearcat women as she also earned a NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault. Elder’s height of 15-04.50 hit the mark exactly to join Ashton Nibert and Chloe Wichman on the provisional list for Northwest women.

On the men’s side Will Haer won the pole vault with a height of 16-03.25, setting a personal best for the senior. The mark also improved Haer’s NCAA provisional mark placing him just outside the top 10 with the 11th best mark in NCAA-II and fourth best in the MIAA.

John Petroff claimed the final title for the Bearcats in the discus. Petroff won in the event for the third time this spring with a distance of 159-0, which fell short of a personal best he set earlier this year at the Northwest Open.

The Bearcats continue action next weekend at the MIAA Outdoor Championships hosted by Fort Hays State. Action from Hays, Kan., starts May 3 with the multi events before the finals on May 5.
