Haer and Shaw earn outdoor provisional marks

Results

EMPORIA, Kan. – Will Haer wasted little time earning a provisional mark during the 2013 outdoor season winning the pole vault title at the Emporia State Spring Twilight Thursday afternoon.

Haer handily won the pole vault with a mark of 15-05.75 for the second best jump of his outdoor career.

Joining Haer with a provisional mark was Tyler Shaw, who is just a week removed from competition at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Shaw raced to a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.53, which was also the second best time for the senior in outdoor competition.

The Bearcat men also saw a few impressive performances short of a title as Ryan Cox earned a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run. His time was just shy of champion Cody Miller of Emporia State at 1:57.36, as Miller finished with a winning time of 1:57.32.

For the Northwest women, freshman Tiffeney Cannon made an early splash winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.89.

Also brining a title home Thursday was Emilee Messer racing to a first place finish in the 1500-meter run. Messer raced to a time of 4:59.35, which narrowly missed a provisional mark but was a meet record.

Senior Megan Elder also narrowly missed a provisional mark in the pole vault with a runner-up finish. Elder earned the third best mark in the Northwest record books with a height of 10-11.75 and the second best mark of her outdoor career.

The Bearcat track and field teams return to action next week March 22 at the Mizzou Relays.
