Bearcats’ pick up wins at Dutch Athletics Classic

PELLA, Iowa – A pair of Bearcats earned NCAA provisional marks in the pentathlon and heptathlon for the Northwest Missouri State track and field teams at the Dutch Athletics Classic Friday and Saturday hosted by Central College.

Sophomore Chloe Wichman earned the title in the pentathlon winning all five events for a total of 3328 points. The point total gives Wichman a NCAA provisional mark and is the 10th best point total so far this season in the nation.

Wichman’s total is also the second highest total all-time at Northwest, while teammates Jessica Hugo and Adrienne Cornelius finished close behind Wichman in second and third.

For the Bearcat men, senior Seth Staashelm claimed a victory in the heptathlon finishing first in the pole vault and runner-up in the high jump.

Staashelm’s 4669 points gives him a top five mark at Northwest and a NCAA provisional mark with teammate Logann Halloran. Halloran finished fifth with 3162 points, but earned his provisional mark at the UNK Pre-Holiday Invitational in December.
