McKnight grabs All-America finish in shot put
PUEBLO, Colo. - Lekiesha McKnight gave Northwest Missouri State track and field 3-for-3 All-American’s at the 2012 NCAA Track and Field Championships on Saturday as the junior earned the honors in the shot put.
McKnight followed the lead set by Kate Walter on Thursday and duplicated by Brittany Poole on Friday with her fifth place finish in the shot put Saturday afternoon. She tossed a mark of 48’ 08.25” to earn a podium spot and her second All-America finish of her junior season.
The Kansas City native’s second All-America finish came after she placed sixth in the shot put at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Central Missouri senior, Kayla Muyskens, claimed the title with a throw of 52’ 06.50” followed by a pair of Grand Valley State throwers. Missouri Southern’s Nicole Green finished just ahead of McKnight at 49’ 09.0.”
As the night came to a close Grand Valley State led the women’s team count followed by the MIAA’s Lincoln Blue Tigers. Northwest tallied 14 points over the three days and was in 17th out of 53 schools competing on the women’s side.
