Fender highlights Heptathlon

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Sam Fender highlighted the final day for the Northwest Missouri State men and women at the Ashley Nally Heptathlon and Herschel Neil Decathlon Sunday at Bearcat Stadium/Herschel Neil Track.

Fender recorded a first place finish in the javelin and a second place finish in the long jump on the final day to move into third place overall. Fender recorded 4166 points as Sami Spenner claimed the women’s title with 5312 points.

A quartet of Bearcats finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh led by Chloe Wichman. Wichman recorded 4108 points to finish fourth while Jessica Hugo tallied 4070 points for a fifth place finish.

Zeke Winans led the Bearcat men as he finished fourth in the Decathlon. Winans finished with 5925 points while Taylor Sanderson captured the title with 6452 points.

The Bearcats are back in action as they host their only home meet of the outdoor season at the Jock’s Nitch Northwest Open on Saturday.
