Tracksters open day 1 of Decathlon/Heptathlon
MARYVILLE, Mo. – Eight Northwest Missouri State tracksters opened day one of the Herschel Neil Decathlon and Ashley Nally Heptathlon on Saturday at Bearcat Stadium.
On the men’s side Zeke Winans sits in fourth place after five events on Saturday. Winans had his best finish in the shot put as he placed second and finished third in the long jump.
Seth Staashelm competed unattached for the Bearcats and claimed a second place finish in the long jump and stands in sixth place overall with 3106 points. Taylor Sanderson holds the lead after day one with 3465.
Jessica Hugo leads the women with 2560 to stand in third place after day one. Hugo placed third in the high jump as leader Sammi Spenner leads with 3183 points.
A trio of Bearcats sit close behind Hugo as Chloe Wichman, Sam Fender and Adrienne Cornelius are in fourth, fifth and sixth place after day one.
Hannah Churchman is also close behind in eighth place as only 300 points separate her from fifth and Gretchen Kroese sits in 11th. Three events remain on Sunday for the women to close out the Ashley Nally Heptathlon.
