Day 1 closes with multi events
JOPLIN, Mo. – Day one of the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships saw the women complete the pentathlon while the men finished four of seven events in the heptathlon at the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center.
The Bearcat women just barely missed earning points in the pentathlon as Jessica Hugo scored 3144 points for a 10th place finish. Central Missouri had four athletes earn points for the Jennies including a 1-2-3 finish paced by Lindsay Lettow who placed first.
Hannah Churchman and Adrienne Cornelius placed 12th and 15th respectively for Northwest.
The men completed three field events, the shot put, high jump and long jump along with the 60-meter dash to close out day one. The three events remaining on Saturday include the 60-meter hurdles, 1000-meters, and pole vault.
Zeke Winans sits in the eighth and final scoring position after day one with 2,556 points.
Central Missouri also holds the top two spots after one day led by Darius Walker who finished day one with 3,116 points.
Saturday will see the finals of the men’s and women’s throwing events along with the completion of the men’s heptathlon. All running events will start in the afternoon with the prelims as Sunday will see the finals in the jumps, shot put, and running events.
