Women claim 4 titles, men 3 at UCM Classic
WARRENSBURG, Mo. – For the first time this season the Northwest Missouri State track and field teams were pitted against its top rivals in the MIAA at the Central Missouri Classic Friday and did not disappoint coming home with seven titles.
The Bearcat women carried home four titles while the Northwest men claimed three, including two from Eli Smith.
On the women’s side the Bearcats got solid results in both sprints and distance events as including a 1-2 finish in the 60-meter dash. Brianna Evans took home the title with a time of 7.79 and was followed by Samantha Fender with a time of 7.87.
Fender would also finish second in the long jump with mark of 5.23 meters.
A pair of Bearcats also finished first and second in the 400-meters as Ashton Nibert claimed the title with a time of 1:00.17 missing a NCAA provisional by a few seconds. Alexis Boyd was behind Nibert by a few hundredths coming in second with a time of 1:00.69.
Claiming home the other two titles for the Bearcats were Chloe Wichman who won the 600-yard run and Taylor Woodruff winning the 1-mile run.
For the Bearcat men, Eli Smith took home titles in the 200-meters and 400-meters.
Porter Groves, who already has a NCAA provisional in the long jump, barely missed the mark in the 60-meter dash. Groves took home the title with a time of 6.97 while Travis Manning finished fourth for Northwest.
Northwest will head to Joplin next weekend as they take part in the MIAA Indoor Championships.
