Shaw qualifies for national championships
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior Tyler Shaw is one of 17 qualifiers who will compete in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships hosted by Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock, Calif.
The preliminaries of the hurdles are scheduled for 7:25 p.m. PDT May 27. The top eight qualifiers will advance to the final set to take place at 6:35 p.m. PDT May 28.
Shaw is a two-time All-American in the event. He placed sixth at nationals last season and fourth two years ago when he set the program record at 14.03s. Shaw's top time this season is 14.11s, which he ran in winning the 2011 MIAA Championship back on May 7.
Three other Northwest student-athletes were on the bubble, but were not selected to compete. The NCAA took 17 runners in both the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Junior T.R. Pursell was ranked 20th in the event and junior Brittany Poole was 19th. Sophomore Seth Staashelm was ranked 17th in the decathlon, but the NCAA took 12.
