DES MOINES, Iowa-Northwest Missouri State junior Angela Adams makes her 2011 outdoor track and field debut tonight when she competes in the 5,000-meter run at 8:40 p.m. at the 102nd Drake Relays hosted by Drake University.
Adams, who has been sidelined with an injury, is one of three Division II runners in the largely Division I field. An All-MIAA performer and an NCAA national qualifier a year ago, Adams is Northwest's record holder in the event with a time of 16:55.80.
In addition to Adams, junior T.R. Pursell will represent the Bearcats at the Relays. Pursell will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:35 a.m. Saturday.
Pursell is one of four Division II runners in the 23-man field. He was the MIAA's runner-up in the event a year ago when he ran 9:13.50 - a personal-best and the fourth-best mark in program history. He ran a season-best 9:37.67 at the Northwest Open back on April 2.
