Walter, Myers break records at Mule Relays

Women's Results | Men's Results

WARRENSBURG, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State senior Kate Walter (weight throw) and junior Zane Myers (heptathlon) both broke school records to highlight Bearcat performances at the Mule Relays hosted by Central Missouri Friday and Saturday.

Walter's first throw of the 20-pound weight sailed 58-feet-5.75-inches, seventh-best in the nation to date and a mark that broke Julie Humphrey's 13-year-old school record by nearly three feet. The throw stood as she bested 21 other participants. Second-place Kayla Muyskens (unattached) threw 52 feet.

Myers placed second of 10 who finished all seven events of the heptathlon. His score of 4,728 points is 14 better than Jacob Dupin's 2009 record and an NCAA provisional mark that ranks seventh in the nation. Chris Dickman (unattached) won the event with 5,116 points.

Myers' teammates, sophomores Seth Staashelm and Zeke Winans, finished third and eighth in the heptathlon, respectively, and both finished with career-best marks. Staashelm's tally of 4,597 points is three shy of an NCAA provisional mark and third-best in program history.

Junior Tyler Shaw and freshman Ashli Mosby helped Northwest sweep the men's and women's 60-meter hurdle events. Shaw ran 8.42s in the prelims and improved to 8.27s in the final. Mosby ran 9.49s in the prelims and 8.96s in the finals. She's the second Bearcat in program history to turn in a time less than nine seconds.

Northwest also swept the distance medley relays with the women finishing in 12:56.94 and the men in 10:37.05. Add in Shaw's victory in the 200-meter dash (22.60s) and the Bearcats' win tally for the Relays stood at six.
