Five compete at Doane Multis
CRETE, Neb.-Five Northwest Missouri State track and field team members competed in the Happy Holidays Multi-Event Meet hosted by Doane College Friday and Saturday at Fuhrer Field House.
Freshman Logann Halloran and sophomore Seth Staashelm highlighted Bearcat performances by placing sixth and seventh in the heptathlon with 4,551 points and 4,528 points, respectively. The duo finished just shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 4,600 points.
Halloran turned in his best finishes in the pole vault and 55-meter dash where he placed second and fifth, respectively, out of 14 competitors. Halloran cleared 13-feet-11.25-inches in the pole vault and ran the dash in 6.92s.
Staashelm set personal bests in six of the seven events. The exception was the 1,000-meter race and he placed second in that event with a time of 2:41.26. Staashelm leaped 21-feet-4.75-inches in the long jump and cleared 6-feet-1.25-inches in the high jump, placing sixth in both events.
Sophomore Zeke Winans and freshman Bobby Courtney also competed in the heptathlon. Winans placed 12th with a personal-best score of 3,930 points. Courtney finished 13th with 3,260 points.
Sophomore Adrienne Cornelius competed in and placed sixth in the pentathlon with a personal-best score of 2,798 points. The mark is sixth-highest in program history.
Cornelius set personal bests in the 800-meter run where she placed second with a time of 2:28.26, and in the shot put where she threw 30-feet-4.75-inches and placed fifth. Nine athletes competed in the challenge including four Doane student-athletes and three competitors from Central Missouri.
